Double hurricanes in route -- what fun.
11 August 2004
Raleigh, North Carolina is due to be hit by two hurricanes within 24 hours this weekend. Though the tracks are still a bit uncertain, we are preparing as if we will take a direct hit from both. The generator is tested and fully operational. The telco lines are working properly and no problems are anticipated since we are homed off to three completely independent POPs. Everything is tied down and, if warranted, the boards will go up over the windows early Saturday. Our biggest problem in central North Carolina appear to be heavy rain. The ground is already fairly saturated and up to 10 inches is expected from the first storm, Bonnie. She will be cruising through here on late Friday night through early Saturday morning. When Bonnie clears, Charley is right on target to get us Saturday night. Charley will be the bigger threat since it may actually still be at hurricane strength when it gets here. With another 5 to 15 inches of rain possible combined with strong winds, Saturday night should prove to be rather interesting. We're still a little far out from the target times, so Bonnie and Charley may miss us entirely. We'll keep you posted as time progresses.
